Game Review: Command & Conquer Red Alert 2 – computer game continuation of real-time strategy Command & Conquer Red Alert released in 2000 by Westwood Studios. The game takes place in the parallel world created by Albert Einstein in the 1970s or 1980s continuing the storyline of the Allies from the original Red Alert. As in its predecessor the opposing sides in the game are the Soviet Union and the Alliance in addition some units and structures are identical to the original of the first Red Alert and some – have changed (for example the tank “Mammoth” was turned into a tank “Apocalypse”) .
Compared with the previous game the sequel improved graphics and multiplayer. The interface has also undergone changes the buildings are divided into production and scientific and defensive and the units are divided into infantry and armored vehicles. In the game for the first time there was the possibility of holding city battles now the linear infantry can be placed in buildings and fired from them. While the first game in the Red Alert series is logically related to the history of the Tiberium game (for example the head of the Brotherhood of Nod Kane is an adviser and “gray cardinal” of Stalin in it) Red Alert 2 does not contain any references to the Tiberium canon and is more like Actually “cold war” between the eastern and western military-political blocs which grew into the Third World War. For this reason in Red Alert 2 an even more important role is played by satire on the stereotypes of the “cold war”.
History continues the events of the first Command & Conquer Red Alert – allies win the war and Stalin dies during the final battle for Moscow. The head of the defeated Soviet Union the Allies appoint the Chairman of the Council of Ministers of the USSR Alexander Romanov as a “puppet” to maintain peace. However Romanov has other plans remembering the humiliation experienced by the Russian people during the allied occupation he is preparing to take revenge on America. Later in the Soviet campaign it is told that the right hand of the prime minister is Yuri Telepath he used psychological influence on Romanov and other members of the Soviet government to push them to attack the US while manipulating both the USSR and the West and also working to create their own army. The Soviet army intervenes in the civil war in Mexico supporting the rebels fighting against the pro-American government which causes the indignation of American President Michael Dugan. Further confrontation leads to the fact that the USSR and the US are ready to start a new world war.Upon learning of the transfer of Soviet transports across the Atlantic to the shores of North America Dugan contacts via a telephone line with Romanov and demands that the incursion be stopped and then orders the use of the US nuclear arsenal against the Soviet Union. However the Americans simply can not launch missiles with warheads since Yuri is hypnotizing the US dispatcher who is exploding the missiles before launching them. As a result the threat of a nuclear war is avoided but General Vladimir loyal to Romanov heads a sudden attack on the United States. Since then both campaigns have started.
